Advocacy

Good advocacy speaks to “hearts, minds and hands” by making people care about the issue, understand the facts and know what they can do to create change.

Through advocacy for policy commitments and social changes, Soroptimists aim to improve the status of women and girls and promote sustainable communities.

SIWA’s approach to advocacy is based on identifying and understanding issues; researching and collecting evidence; collaborating with others and those most impacted; and following through.

The Advocacy Committee leads the SIWA Program of Advocacy and is made up of a diverse group of members representing the WA clubs.

The Program of Advocacy for the coming 1-5 years, subject to annual evaluation and review, covers the following areas:

  • Family and Domestic Violence
  • Homelessness
  • Childcare
  • Children’s Rights
  • Environment
  • Financial Security
  • Justice/Legal
  • Grandcarers Raising Grandchildren
  • Human Rights
  • First Nation
