SI Riverside Quiz Night – May 2011

On Saturday May 21, Soroptimist International of Riverside hosted their fourth annual Quiz Night.

Held at Riverton-Rossmoyne Bowling Club, 21 tables participated in the event, presided over by local quizmasters Terry and Sue Nightingale from Quizzical.

The participants enjoyed an evening of fundraising and fun, with a fast-paced quiz, table puzzles, games like ‘heads and tails’, a raffle and a silent auction keeping everyone entertained.

Members worked hard in the lead up to the night securing donations for prizes and auction items. Donated items ranged from fishing rods, holiday accommodation and hair care products to cup cakes and cook books. Many local businesses got behind the quiz night by donating products and services.

The raffle was drawn by local Member for Riverton Dr Mika Nahan, MLA.

The night was a great success, with a tight, high scoring contest. The first three teams were separated by just a few points, making for a very exciting and tense final few rounds.

The night also raised $3,288.50 for two projects. The funds raised will support the Bali Birthing Clinic, paying for supplies such as baby blankets and blood pressure monitors. In addition funds will help train midwives in Papua New Guinea as part of the Soroptimist International South West Pacific federation project, ‘Birthing in the Pacific’.

Members were thrilled with the result. It was expected that the state of the economy, and the number of natural disasters that have required support already this year, would mean a drop in funds raised. Members of Soroptimist International of Riverside were overjoyed at the generosity of participants, many of whom were enjoying their third or fourth quiz night.
